Thai Van Nguyen

Resided in:
Fremont, CA
Nguyen Van Thai passed away peacefully at home with family on February 24, 2015 in Fremont, CA at the age of 81 after a three-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. He lived under the care of his second youngest child, Thuy Nguyen, and his wife, Nguyen Thi Thanh.
Thai was born on January 1, 1934 in Ha Nam, located about 40 miles south of Ha Noi, Vietnam to Nguyen Van Uoc and Nguyen Thi Nguyet. He was the youngest out of three children: an older brother and older sister.
On June 22, 1953, he married Nguyen Thi Thanh and on April 20, 1954, they had their first child, Trung-Son Thai Nguyen. Four months later, they left communist North Vietnam, following the Geneva Accords, to South Vietnam where they raised their growing family. Thai and Thanh had nine children: Son, Quy, Tung, Ha, Tong, Van, Hang, Thuy, and Hoang Nguyen. Their family lived in Nha Trang, a coastal town in Vietnam until the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Their family, this time, was forced to relocate to the 'New Ecomic Zone' by the new communist government. Following 3 years of hardship and manual labor, they abandoned their houses and moved to Soc Trang, in the deep south of Vietnam to escape the repression of local government.
On July 16, 1992, Thai and Thanh moved their lives to America and lived with their oldest son in Fremont, CA. Thai loved to exercise and to walk every morning bright and early.
Today, Thai and Thanh have 26 grand children and 8 great-grandchildren who love and miss him dearly. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that did everything he could to raise and support his family.
We have begun a team in honor of Thai for The Longest Day, an annual team event hosted by the Alzheimer's Association. Our team name is Team Nguyen and, this year, our goal is to raise $1, 600, which will go towards advancing Alzheimer care, research, and support. We hope to increase our goal in the years to come. If you would like to join our team and/or make a donation towards our cause, you can do so at the following link:
