Wilbert Dee Swihart

wilbert swihart

February 28, 1933 ~ May 15, 2024

Resided in: Fremont, California

Wilbert passed away at home in Fremont at the age of 91.  He died of complications from bladder cancer.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Edith Swihart of Lynn Center Illinois, and great grandson Mason Davi in Fremont California. He was a devoted husband to Gloria for over 65 years, father to DeeAnn Davi (Victor William), Lynn Swihart (Barbie), and Kyle Swihart.  He was mostly known as Papa and absolutely adored his grandchildren Victor Thomas Davi (Deanna), Westley Swihart, Alyssa Perreira (Anthony), Rachel Davi (fiance Matthew), Ryan Swihart (Michelle), Luke Davi, Kaylie Lee (Devin), Aaron Swihart, and great grandchildren Trinity, Eli, Nathan, Lily, Avery, Charles, and Maverick. His surviving siblings include Margaret Johnson of Lynn Center Illinois, Barbara Johnson of Galesburg Illinois, Loren Swihart of Lynn Center Illinois, and Don Swihart of Stillwater Minnesota.

Wilbert grew up in Minnesota and Illinois.  After high school, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War.  After his service, he honed his mechanical skills and worked for United Airlines in San Francisco until he retired.  He loved sailing, as well as tinkering on anything mechanical.  He also loved volunteering at Do-Wooders and The Food Closet, both in Arnold California, as well as Macedonia Outreach.  He was a devoted member of both Mountain Christian Fellowship in Murphys California and Chapel of the Pines in Arnold California.

But most of all Papa loved God and never hesitated reminding life long friends about it or strangers that he just met.  His eyes would always tear up when he shared his love for Jesus.  His faith was the pillar of the family that he loved so very much.  He was so proud of each and every one of us and never ceased sharing that with us.

The family is grateful to the nurses, caregivers, and staff of Suncrest Hospice, especially the loving care provided by Elise and Yolanda.  Any donations made on behalf of Wilbert Swihart can be made to The Food Closet at Chapel of The Pines in Arnold CA., http://chapelinthepines.org/give

A memorial service will be held on Friday June 7 at 2:00 pm at the Convergence House of Prayer 200 Hammond Avenue Fremont CA 94539.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Uncle Wilbert loved children, from his own children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. I recall Uncle Wilbert and Aunt Gloria visiting the family in Illinois and our girls were little at the time. The girls were sitting on the floor playing with toys and Uncle Wilbert got down on the floor and started playing with the toys and talking with them. He said you need to get down to their level and not tower above them to really talk with them and that is exactly what he did. In addition to loving children, it goes without saying that he loved His Lord.
My sincere sympathy to the family,

  2. My condolences to the family. It’s always so hard to lose someone you love. May the super natural peace of God that only HE can give, be with the family during this difficult and oh so sad time.
I’m unable to attend the service but may it be a beautiful time of reflection of his life.
    Blessings
    Lynette (friend of DeeAnn)
