Xisheng Fang

January 6, 1948 ~ December 29, 2018
Resided in:
Fremont, CA
Xisheng Fang, age 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Stanford University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a long and valiant battle against complications from an allogeneic transplant. He was born January 6, 1948, in Wuxi, China.
Academia was a major part of Dr. Fang’s life. Early in his life, he earned multiple Masters and PhD degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering as well as Applied Mathematics and AI. As a lifelong learner and teacher, Dr. Fang loved his job as Professor of Computer Science at Ohlone College where he spent nearly 25 years teaching thousands of students everything from an introduction to computers to networking and programming. In fact, even as he was fighting for his life, Dr. Fang insisted on teaching his Fall, 2018 online classes.
Xisheng was a brilliant man with an uncanny ability to recall every person, place, and thing he saw or read about. His friends remember his witty repartee, and his family will miss deeply their dedicated father and husband who would go to the ends of the earth to make them happy.
He is survived by his beloved mother, sister, wife, daughter, son, granddaughter (with another on the way).
Family, friends, students, and others whose lives were touched by Xisheng are invited to the Berge Pappas Smith Chapel of the Angels from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2018, to celebrate his life. Snacks and drinks will be served afterward.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Xisheng will be missed.
I worked with Dr. Fang for couple of years and will never forget his kindness. Someone so special can never be forgotten and will be missed.
Ohlone students and staff will share this loss.
I liked the statement in the obituary that Xisheng would go to the neds of the earth for his family. That was true in other aspects of his life–and he did so much for me personally and professionally. He made an impact on my life. He will be missed. My thoughts are with his family.
